A committed advocate for women’s rights, Ghass has long been engaged in this cause through various artistic actions and forms of support. Deeply connected to the French republican values embodied by Marianne — liberty, equality, and dignity — the artist had quietly nurtured the dream of creating his own interpretation of this universal symbol.
In September 2022, during a period of intense artistic inspiration and at a time marked by tragic events affecting women worldwide, Ghass decided to bring this vision to life through a powerful symbolic work. Thus was born the Marianne of Ghass — a woman of the world, a living woman, a free woman. A contemporary and emancipated Marianne, rooted in universal human values.
This artistic project stands as a global statement in favor of women’s rights, while also serving as a profound tribute to the courage of Iranian women. Ghass’s Marianne is dedicated to the memory of Mahsa Amini, whose name has become a worldwide symbol of resistance, freedom, and dignity.
Through this work, Ghass seeks to convey a message of hope, resilience, and solidarity, envisioning the Marianne as a living symbol destined to travel and be installed across the world.
